LEVEL UP!

If you were lucky to find yourself a Munchlax around honey trees, or you logged onto Mystery Gifts like I did in Pokemon Sun/Moon, you may want to level up to get Snorlax. So, what should you do?! No matter what game you're playing, you want to get your Munchlax to a maximum happiness level, or at least 220 or above, in order to have Munchlax evolve. Below are the different ways you can check your friendship and happiness levels with Munchlax in each game:
- Diamond/Pearl/Platinum: Use a feature called the "Friendship Checker," which is part of your poketech.
- HeartGold/SoulSilver: You can gauge friendship by the phrase that appears when you interact with your Pokemon outside the pokeball.
- Black/White: Nacrene City and Icirrus Pokemon Fan Club both have characters that can rate your friendship.
- Black2/White2: Go to Icirrus Pokemon Fan Club or talk to Bianca to check your happiness level.
- X/Y: If you travel to Laverre City and/or Santalune City you can check your friendship.
- Sun/Moon: If you travel to Konikoni City you will find a character who will tell you about your Pokemon's happiness through specific set statements.
➾ My! It feels incredibly close to you! Nothing makes it happier than being with you! [250+]
➾ You clearly love your Pokemon, and you must spend a lot of time together. [200-249]
➾ Hm. I’d say that you and Pokemon have the potential to be an even greater combo.
          [150-199]
➾ Hmmm. I think...it feels friendly toward you. At least a little... [100-149]
➾ Hmmm... I’d say that you and your Pokemon still have a long way to go. [50-99]
➾ What is going on here? Do you let it get knocked out a lot in battles or something?
          This is bad. [1-49]
➾ Oh dear. You must be a merciless Trainer... Do you use Frustration or just
          not know better? [0]
So, now that we know how to evolve Munchlax into a Snorlax, you may be wondering "How do I make my Munchlax happy????" Well, below are a few ways you can make your Munchlax happy in order to help the likelihood and speed of evolving it.
1) Take your Munchlax on a walk. Your friendship stat will increase by 1-2 points for every 128 or 256 steps.
2) Feed Munchlax vitamins and/or EV lowering berries. These will make Munchlax healthy, happy, and strong, leading in a boost of friendship.
3) Stay away from Bitter things! Munchlax is not a big fan of bitter flavored things like bitter herbs, roots, and medicines.
4) In the newer games, you can feed your Munchlax PokeBeans to boost it's happiness. If you feed it the Rainbow PokeBean the hearts will go up quicker.
5) If you teach your Munchlax a move by TM multiple times, it will also boost it's happiness.
6) Take Munchlax to get a professional massage. There are multiple places you can go in different games to do this:
➾ In Black and White, travel to Veilstone, Castelia City, and the Resort Area by route 229
➾ In Pokemon Sun and Moon, travel to Konikoni City. Only one massage per day though!

APPLES DON'T FALL FAR FROM DA TREE

Snorlax is constantly eating through out the anime and manga versions of Pokemon. Snorlax will awake and forage for the 880 pounds (399 kilograms) of food it needs to survive, and then fall back to sleep. This causes problems for villages, farmers, and cities because Snorlax will eat uncontrollably. We see him getting into trouble because of his constant desire of food. One example of this is in the episode "The Garden of Eatin'" where Snorlax is seen stealing bananas from a man named Marcel. This was an issue because the Garden belonged to his Pokemon Slakoth. He is also seen stealing banana's from Ash's Corphish, causing problems again. Munchlax is also seen having the same problems. May's Munchlax first comes into her sight because he is constantly eating everything in sight, including PokeBlocks that May made which no one else would eat. She calls them, "May's Purple Surprise." Because Munchlax eats the most food of any Pokemon besides its evolution, Snorlax, and it will eat nearly anything, the kids blamed Munchlax for stealing all of their PokeBlocks too. However, Munchlax was innocent, but he didn't pay them any mind and continued to eat all of the berries outside he could find. May finally catches him because she throws the Pokeball at hime and he thinks it's food, trying to eat it. Munchlax tends to store food in its long fur, although it sometimes forgets about its hidden food. It can also eat many servings of food at a time, and rarely gets full. Munchlax can gulp down food without even chewing!

As you can tell from above, Snorlax and Munchlax are used as comic relief characters throughout the Pokemon series. A Comic relief is "the inclusion of a humorous character, scene, or witty dialogue in an otherwise serious work, often to relieve tension." Although many serious Pokemon have their moments of comic relief throughout the series, it seems like for the majority of Munchlax's and Snorlax's appearance is to make us laugh. Whether they are getting into trouble by eating too much, making their trainers feel stupid, or making goofy faces, we love them! After reading through some online forums, it seems like there are some people who are not fans of the comic relief characters because they come off as "repetitive, redictable, and for those who can't stand the quirk, insufferable." I think that these quirks are good, because it's something that we can all smile at as Pokemon fans and learn to love about the series we've all grown up with!

But let's be real people. How many of us have personality traits pretty similar to these two cuties? I know that if I could lay around for days at a time and just sleep and eat, I TOTALLY would! They've got the right idea! Snorlax and Munchlax represent us gamer kids and what we want to be doing, but sometimes can't because life gets in the way! :p

RANTS ABOUT MY MUNCH/SNORLAX

I used to think that Snorlax was just simply a comic relief character, making me joke about the idea of a funny one-pager to him. This was my only thought I had because I had never used a Snorlax or a Munchlax in my party. When my sister reminded me that I could obtain a Munchlax in the Mystery Gifts section in Pokemon Moon, I decided to give it a chance. The date that I met my Munchlax was 11/23/2016! Now that the Pokemon games are more interactive between your Pokemon and you, I have found myself even more attached to the Pokemon I use in my party. Petting Munchlax and feeding her PokeBeans made me happy because of her cute little smile and jumps. After leveling up, I realized that I didn't want to take Munchlax out of my party.

The next obvious step was to figure out how to successfully level up my Munchlax into Snorlax. I taught Munchlax a few different TM's, gave her the Soothe Bell for battles, and made sure to stop by Konikoni City for a personal massage. I also made sure to feed her the Malasadas that are local to Alola whenever her hunger went down. All of these steps, as well as kicking butt in battle, never fainting, and quickly healing when Munchlax's HP went down or stat changed, caused my Munchlax to evolve into Snorlax.

My mind was completely changed about Snorlax after using her in battle. I could honestly kick every single Type's ass if I wanted to with Snorlax. She is a BEAST in battle!! My Snorlax/Munchlax has an Impish nature. I met Munchlax at level 5, with a note "a fateful encounter." Her characteristic is "a little quick tempered," but hey, so am I! My Snorlax has two Ribbons:
Best Friends Ribbon: A Ribbon that can be given to a Pokemon with which you share a close and meaningful bond.
Classic Ribbon: A Ribbon that proclaims love for Pokemon.
As soon as I evolved Munchlax into Snorlax I immediately equipped Snorlium Z. Yes, this Z-Type Move is hilarious, but it's also a guaranteed way to kick-ass once again in battle! Types that aren't that effected by Normal Type moves still either faint or nearly faint from this! Also, where did they even come up with Pulverizing Pancake??? That is too funny!

The other thing I like about Snorlax is that I can teach her all different Types of TM's. Right now on December 30th, 2016 my Snorlax is currently on level 46. She knows Brick Break (Fighting Type), Giga Impact (Normal Type), Bulldoze (Ground), and Rock Tomb (Rock). I am able to use her to fight a plethora of different Types of Pokemon! I used her during my Electric Trials with Sophocles and didn't need to change Pokemon once!

IF THEY WERE REAL...

If Munchlax and Snorlax were real, and I had the actual chance to be a Pokemon Trainer, I think I would do just fine with these two on my team. I would definitely start off with a Munchlax, and I would do so by putting the honey on trees in order to lure one in. I think instead of battling Munchlax, I would try to gain it's trust by luring it back to the same spot many times, until it began to believe in my sincerity. I would hope that eventually it would just want to stay by my side, as other Pokemon have done in the Pokemon Anime Adventures. Once Munchlax willingly joined my side, and went into the Pokeball, I would have to call up Professor Oak. Professor Oak made a special type of PokeBlock in Episode 364, The Garden of Eatin', that will be equivalent of eating 300kg, by expanding inside the belly of Snorlax. Also, Max created a PokeBlock to have similar effects for May's Munchlax in the anime as well. Therefore, I would have an endless supply of these PokeBlocks for my Munchlax, and eventually, Snorlax to eat. I would give them fruits and human food once in awhile as a treat. I would try my best to train them into fierce fighters, just like they were in my Pokemon Moon game last! I would still like part of their comic relief charms, but overall, I know they would have potential to kick major Pokemon butt!!

Now, would I fit in well with my Snorlax? Well, take a look for yourself! My good friend, Megan A seems to think so! She's right, though. I have a great deal of respect for napping and people who like to nap. I often times take naps at friends houses, and I always love taking naps when I am in a relationship as well. I wouldn't need anyone else to take naps with, because I would be snuggled up with my Snorlax or Munchlax! What would honestly be better than coming home after a long day of Pokemon training, and letting my Munchlax or Snorlax out to cuddle up!? We would have such an amazing bond together because we both would like to eat and sleep! There will never be any disagreement (Hehe).

Also, during a cute Twitter event, we all posted a photo that asked, "What three fictional characters do you associate with me?" Out of the twelve people who had responded that day, four people mentioned Munchlax, and two people mentioned Snorlax. I am very proud to have gotten both!
