Some of the following information is based off of Winona's "official" profile and other books from Pokemon, while the rest I have gathered from playing Pokemon. Some information may be based off of the manga version as well if stated other wise.

BEHIND THE NAME

Winona, pronounced Wi - NON - ə, is a very feminine name, and was often seen in American, Native American, and Sioux peoples. It means the "first born daughter," in the Dakota language after Sioux Dakota Chief Wapasha III. The English take her name from winnow, meaning wing or wind. This definition makes the most sense in our characters case because she loves the sky. Her Japanese name, Nagi, means "calm." Based on Winona's personality, I thought that the website really portrayed her well. If you want to search a characters name, feel free to go to http://www.kabalarians.com and see what you can find about their names as well!

➳ "The name of Winona creates a very quiet, practical nature and a clever and inventive mind."
➵ "Your methodical nature requires that you like to finish what you start without interruptions and also to have everything in its place and properly organized."
➳ "Being analytical and naturally studious, you are interested in a factual understanding of the mysteries of life."
➵ "An ability to concentrate could take you into computer programming or accountancy or any work requiring concentration and attention to detail."
➳ "You have, also, a flair for creative expression with your hands."
➵ "You take life seriously and can be easily and deeply hurt and go into moods which can be quite extreme at times, causing much turmoil and unhappiness."
➳ "One of your greatest salvations is being out in nature, for it is there that you find the peace and serenity you so much desire."

APPEARANCE

Winona's physical appearance in the anime makes her appear a lot younger than in the manga version. I think part of that has to do with the hemet type head gear she has on in the anime. It doesn't let you see her hair line and I feel like it makes her face look a lot younger. Not to mention the eyes on the helmet makes it look childish. I couldn't find information on her helmet anywhere, but I think it's suppose to look like a Dragonair. I assume this because of the eyes and then the pointed ears. Then, with her long hair flowing behind it, it looks very dragon-like. Also, her role in the manga is a lot more authoritative than in the anime. I think because she has a leadership role for all of the Gym Leaders, she needs to look more mature. I personally like how she looks in the manga better, but that might be a biased response because the manga is more appealing for me in general for all characters.

BADGE

HM: Flying (Allows the HM FLY to be used outside of battle)
OBEYING POKEMON: Up to Level 70
INCREASED STATS: None
BASIS: It is shaped like feathers on a bird's wing.
It obviously makes a lot of sense that Winona's badge would be the Feather Badge because she excels using Flying Type Pokemon. My main question was what type of Pokemon, or animal, has that color feather? So I started to do some research on the 101 Flying Type Pokemon to see if there are any similarities in color that the badge could be based off of. There are only two Pokemon that sort of fit the color and similarity to the badge. One is Ducklett, but it isn't introduced until Generation Five, so I don't think that her badge would be based off of that. So, my belief is that it could be one of Aritcuno's feathers that the Feather Badge was based off of. They are blue and spaced out a lot like the badge. Also, Articuno is a legendary bird Pokemon, so it would put it's status in the Pokemon community higher up. Obviously there is no proof of my thoughts, but I just wanted to try and figure out if the color was significant or if it was just a random color that the creators picked!
