ABILITIES & EQUIPMENT

Gear varies greatly between characters, particularly the default characters that do not need to be unlocked - while equipping Lift Gear with Roxas can give you a weapon that's excellent in aerial combos, Lift Gear may do something entirely different for another character. Be sure to check the stats and abilities of each weapon before you use it! In addition, the weapon types vary greatly, and some have special functions.

Innate ability: Anti-Fire - Makes it harder for enemies to ignite you.
Playing as Axel, one of the game's main characters, can be pretty satisfying - especially if you're a big fan, but also because he's pretty easy to handle and fairly versatile. His defense is a bit below average and his magic higher, which makes him a good choice for those wanting to try a more magic-based character, but not be totally reliant on magic. His attack power is also above average, and none of his stats suffer very much, making him a good well-rounded character. Unsurprisingly, his weapons take their names mostly from fire and heat, including his Zero Gear weapon from Story Mode, CoM, and KH2, Eternal Flames. Mystery Gear gives you the unremarkable Conformers, and with Casual Gear you get the giggle-inducing Pizza Cut.
